Sophomore Inspire Week
In Animas High School, during our Sophomore year, we do this thing called "Sophomore Inspire Week" before spring break. You may be thinking, what in the world is Sophomore Inspire Week? Basically, during this week, the sophomores are required to help in a local business/organization. This year we had 5 option-
I personally chose The Juniper School project, we were assigned to make a sensory garden and lesson plan for the students. Including me, we were a group of 9 students and a teacher (Lori Fisher). The first day, our group basically scouted out the area where the sensory garden is going to be built,
- Durango Early Learning Center - AHS students will build a ‘mud kitchen’ for the outdoor learning space, design and build fairy houses. Develop a tracking system for documenting and recording family volunteer hours.
- Weaselskin Equestrian Center - Students will work with horses in a therapeutic setting, work on the business side of securing the conservation easement for the property, and regenerative agriculture work.
- Little Free Libraries - design and construction of 3 Little Free Library boxes to be installed in Durango Area mobile home parks
- The Juniper School - assisting in creation of a plan and curriculum for the new green house. Small scale garden construction and greenhouse support.
- Commons Building Mural project - students will design and paint a mural at the Commons building
