Final Project - Mi Cuento Original
Throughout this year of Spanish 1, our class built language skills through storytelling. We created class stories, we read stories, we retold stories, and we practiced writing our own stories. This final project is a culmination of all that language learning and applying it to make our own stories.
My language skills have grown drastically through this year, although I struggled to write anything first semester, after learning new words and reading a lot of stories it helped me understand Spanish more and more and at the end was able to write more and write my own stories. As shown on the graph above, I have been improving bit by bit. I am very proud of my project, especially the fact I was able to write a complete story with a limited amount of words without the help of outside sources like google, although if I had to do this project again, I would definitely draw my own book rather than use a program because the stock images are not very versatile which did hold me back on what I could do. I think next in my language learning journey I would like to be fluent in reading and writing Spanish. The biggest takeaway I had was how if I put my mind to it, I can do anything because I thought that I will not be able to write but since I believed in myself I was able to make something I am proud of.
Day of the Dead project
This semester for our Spanish class our project topic was about día de los Muertos. I really had no idea what día de los Muertos ( day of the dead) was, to me it was just a bunch of skulls dancing.
When there is a death in my family. My little brother and mom don't take it so well but on the other hand my dad is very calm, and I simply don't care. Although it is sad I personally believe that we should celebrate the life they lived instead of grieving over their death, everyone has their own way of showing emotions.
From what I have understood, the day of the dead is when we remember our loved one who has passed away. It originated from the Aztec people of what is now Mexico, and is still celebrated there to this day. Every year on November 2 they celebrate Day of the dead, they make a beautiful altar with the picture of the person on it, the altar is decorated with marigolds and the things they like it could be food objects etc.
For my project I honored Diego Maradona, he was one of the best soccer players the world had seen, and also a role model for a lot of people including me. He inspired me to do what I love and try my best. I used a soccer ball as my offering to him because of how much he loved the sport, overall my experience with día de los Muertos was good. I think I could have put more things as my offering and also not slack off during the project.
I think my biggest takeaway from this project was how people celebrate someone's death in a good way.
