What is LINK? Where did I intern? What was my project?
LINK is a 3 week internship program where juniors from Animas High School go and get real world experiences from different businesses all over the world. I personally interned with the Colorado League of Charter School, a independent organization with the hope to improve student achievement by supporting Colorado’s charter schools, positively reshaping the public school landscape, and advancing opportunities for innovation and expanded high-quality public school choice. While working with CLC I was tasked to redesigned the Colorado Charter Champion Award, a program that recognizes student leaders in charter school from all over the state and help them improve their advocacy and leadership skill while giving them the opportunity to go to Denver and present what they have learned to teachers from all over the state.
Colorado Charter Champion Award Brainstorm
LINK Reflection
Having a strong inclination towards working independently and possessing good communication skills, when I was given the opportunity to work remotely for the League of Charter Schools, these skills were most beneficial. My independent nature allowed me to work and complete my tasks without relying on others. Moreover, my communication skills proved to be useful while meeting with my mentors and other members of the organization. This internship experience enabled me to hone my existing skills rather than acquire new ones. Despite performing well, I encountered a significant obstacle in terms of my limited creativity. Being a logical thinker, I found it challenging to brainstorm ideas while tasked with restructuring the Charter Champion Award. I struggled with this a lot, and the best solution for me was to have brainstorming sessions with my mentors and sometimes evern my friends. This taught me a very valuable lesson though, as now I know that I alone cannot do everything and that it is ok to depend on others from time to time.
All in all, working with CLC was an amazing experience and it was helpful for both me and the organization itself. Due to CLC working with high schools, they had the opportunity to get a student perspective and work to plan out programs with a student, a valuable experience as most of the CLC members have not been in a classroom in a very long time. On the other hand, thanks to this internship I now understand how my future might look like as I want to get into politics and the CLC structure is similar to many political parties, and fortunately for me, I enjoyed every bit of it and am looking forward to what my future holds.
